Bytes of Wisdom is one of those projects I say on for a long long time before putting into motion. My vision was a beautiful Instagram full of short bites of wisdom about careers in technology.
My ambition for this project is to do 100 posts. At the time of documenting this project in this post, I’ve just published number 51, with 65 written.
The designs were done by my partner, Amy Potter. The posts are made in full detail on Instagram and DEV. With snippets posted to Twitter and Linked In, too.
My main concern with such a project was publishing very short bits of Wisdom. In a world that frankly could do with more subtlety and nuance, was this a good idea? I feel I’ve solved this in two ways. Each Instagram post contains 1-2 paragraphs with further explanation of the byte, as well as a disclaimer on each post about how the real word is more subtle. I feel this is appropriate and it opens the comments section for any notable exceptions or disagreements. I’ve had no major complaints or disagreements so far.
Unlike other projects, this is a strictly content-only project without any code. I have BytesOfWisdom.com which forwards to the Instagram feed, and that may be something more exciting sometime in the future
